Bringing brain - friendly learning to life with Kimberley Hare

What is brain-friendly learning? It's a philosophy, a movement and a wide variety of learning techniques for making learning (and the design of learning) faster, more fun and more effective.

Brain-friendly learning is not about techniques and gimmicks. It is far more than just putting on baroque music, or playing fun games. It's a movement rather than just a method. A movement to recover the real joy of learning - combining Sizzle with Substance - and helping people become even more outstanding at the work they have chosen to do.

In this fun, experiential, 'taster' session, you will learn some intriguing facts about the way the brain learns, experience the five principles of brain-friendly learning in action, and leave with practical ideas that you can apply immediately to your own activities as staff developers.

Session Objectives

You will experience:

Keeping it Real - set up and set down, embedding learning and the effective transfer of learning.

The importance of emotional state - and how to create a peak state for learning. Bringing about a Flow state where challenge is high, yet stress is low.

Your Amazing Brain – and the implications of recent brain research for the design and delivery of training. Facilitating Creation not just Consumption.

Making it rich and multi-sensory – using the power of association, story and metaphor. Music and learning. Spicing up your learning methods.

Honouring the unique learner – engaging and inspiring all the intelligences and learning preferences.
