Organisations, leadership and cooking with Phil Hawthorn
“If you can’t stand the heat…” OK – you know the rest. Seriously, though, what could
we learn from the full on nature of cooking to order? Does the restaurant environment
offer any insights, metaphors or ideas we can use in other organisations? Is Gordon
Ramsey right? (I would always agree with him…) Is your style more the supportive,
cheeky-chappy Jamie Oliver type? Or are the rest of the team more important than
the chef or maitre d’?
You will gain some insights from the chefs, restaurant managers and other people
Phil has interviewed. You will, naturally, disagree with some of his assertions.
But you should walk away with some ideas buzzing in your head. And finally, you
will have been entertained – which is not a bad thing in itself!

About Phil
Phil Hawthorn was originally a scientist, then in sales, marketing and business
management in various medical companies. He moved on from pharmaceuticals to set up One Step Ahead - management and team
training – in 1996. He was halfway through his OU MBA
at the time.
He is writing a book - teaching men how to cook - and is now linking teamwork, leadership
and cooking. This is the inspiration for this interactive presentation.
